5 Clues You’re Looking at Fake Online Catfish Profiles

HomeBlog5 Clues You’re Looking at Fake Online Catfish Profiles

Have you ever wondered if that person you’ve been talking to is really who they say they are? Unfortunately, in today’s online world, there are many fake online catfish profiles that can cause someone to feel like they are in a relationship one minute and duped the next. Here are five typical red flags for fake online catfish profiles:

  1. Strange Messaging – If you are getting nonsensical messages from someone, its likely that they are catfishing. These types of messages are actually coming through robotic messaging systems, not a real person, which means they may be strangely worded or have odd use of emojis. If you can’t carry on an intelligent conversation, it’s probably a scam!

5 Clues You’re Looking at Fake Online Catfish Profiles

  1. Profile Description Words – If you’re looking at a profile and it has descriptive words like “royal”, “famous”, “celebrity”, or CEO, you will want to do a little more digging to find out if the person is actually who they say they are. A majority of people will lie about their employment status on their online dating profiles, so doing a little research will likely tell you if they are the real deal.
  2. One Photo – If you see a profile that only has one photo, it’s likely a scam. Don’t bother to engage with these types of fake online catfish profiles.
  3. Empty Profile – One of the reasons you try online dating is because you want to get to know someone. If you have been chatting with someone online, but their online dating profile is incomplete or virtually empty, it’s likely that it is a fake profile.
  4. No Social Links – Just about everyone has at least one social profile these days. If you notice that someone doesn’t have links to any of their online social networks, you should be wary that it may be a fake online catfish profile.
